Federal and state agencies are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the offender (s), as the southern sea otter is a "fully protected" species often threatened by coastal tanker traffic and oil spills. According to David's Facebook post, the woman who was trapped in the burning vehicle only suffered minor cuts and bruises, and luckily no fatalities occurred in the accident. Dramatic dashcam footage shows the moment strangers pulled a woman from a burning vehicle after a horrific 10-car pile-up. The mayor said they are attempting to identify the people in the video to recognize them for their efforts. (more...)

Writing in the journal Nature , researchers from the U.S. and Ethiopia describe a "vertical deceleration event" which they argue caused Lucy's death. His team zeroed in on a four-part fracture in her right humerus, the bone that runs between the shoulder and the elbow. The research team believes it has found evidence that Lucy died from a fall, perhaps out of a tree, as detailed in Washington Post update. (more...)

The virus is spread through the bite of mosquitos, which have largely been kept in check this summer by dry weather. The August 27 flyby will be the first time that Juno will make a close approach of Jupiter with all of its scientific instruments turned on and looking at the giant planet. NASA's Juno spacecraft launched on August 6, 2011 and should arrive at Jupiter on July 4, 2016.
