Kenya court quashes government order to close Dadaab

Kenya's High Court on Thursday quashed the government's unilateral decision to shut down Dadaab refugee camp which mainly hosts Somalis, terming the move as unconstitutional. Other rights groups claim that the ruling will give greater security to Somali refugees and prevent further violation of their human rights. The camp is situated in a harsh location in remote northern Kenya, with temperatures as high as 118 degrees in the dry season and floods in the wet season. (more...)

Citigroup Inc. lowered shares of Rio Tinto plc to a "sell" rating and decreased their price target for the stock from GBX 2,600 ($32.39) to GBX 2,450 ($30.52) in a research report on Thursday, October 13th. While stronger commodity markets were the driving force behind the improved result, Rio's continued efforts to drive costs lower also helped. For fiscal 2017, Michael Kors expects earnings to be between $4.15 and $4.19 per share on revenue of $4.48 billion - much lower than Street forecast of $4.37 per share on $4.55 billion in revenue. People all over the world pledged to #DeleteUber in response to Travis Kalanick's place on the board, as well as to the company's perceived attempt to break the picket line of the NY taxi strike at JFK airport. On Saturday, Uber tweeted it was suspending surge pricing during the taxi strike, a move the company said was to help riders at JFK who were stranded by the strike, but which protesters said took advantage of the situation for its own benefit. It also contributes to an increase in DUI-related crashes and deaths over the last 15 years, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. In 2015, five were arrested, and a year ago, 10 arrests were made. The average DUI court case costs the defendant approximately $10,000.
