Fiat Chrysler's results were calculated using a new method, in line with reporting changes in the United States, amid an investigation by USA regulators into claims the company inflated sales data. Photojournalist Patrick Perry from Baton Rouge's WBRZ was caught on film pulling a female survivor from the wreckage of a burning vehicle which appeared to have skidded off the road. They wound up missing the assignment while staying with the injured woman. Paramedics arrived and took the woman to the hospital. The woman was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. (more...)

The weaker than expected eurozone-wide figures follow on from poor numbers from individual eurozone economies. Howard Archer at IHS Markit said the inflation report would be "largely disappointing news for the European Central Bank". The region suffered two months of deflation, in April and May, before prices increased by 0.1% year-on-year in June and then by 0.2% in July. Wall Street ended mostly lower Friday after Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen said the case for an increase in US short-term interest rates has strengthened in recent months. She added that the FOMC expected the inflation to rise to 2% over the next few years. The forecast is for the unemployment rate to dip one-tenth of a percentage point to 4.8 percent. (more...)

But despite the strong improvement it has only recovered around half of the ground it lost in the wake of the referendum. A Wall Street Journal poll earlier this month found that 71 percent of economists are expecting the next rate hike to come in December, while more than 17 percent believe it will come in September or November. Currently, the Fed projects it will raise rates twice this year, though Fed officials have only been talking about one increase in recent weeks. Yellen added that the balance sheet was likely to be useful for policy for some time. Yellen was most bullish on the American labor market, and it's easy to see why. The perceived chances of a rate hike in September climbed to 30 percent from 21 percent the previous day, according to CME Group's FedWatch tool. Investors now see an 18 per cent probability the Fed will raise rates at its September policy meeting and a 53 per cent chance of an increase by December, according to futures data. (more...)
