Tottenham to host Man City at Wembley after stadium delay

Mauricio Pochettino has also won all three Premier League games with Spurs so far

Pochettino admitted defeat was hard to take and having seen his side challenge at the head of the table in recent seasons, he hinted his side might have underestimated Watford.

"We need to get back on track and do that against Liverpool".

"We're very disappointed", the Denmark global told the club's official website. "You need to show respect, to compete to win, it's not easy".

Spurs had soon become second best in a game which they had largely controlled and seven minutes later, the North London outfit were behind as Cathcart got in front of his marker at a corner to power a header just inside of the post from eight yards out.

But they go into the global break on the back of a defeat away to Watford and there are still a numbers of first teamers that need to improve this season to turn them into title challengers.

Spurs enjoyed the better of the play and might have taken an early lead as Dele Alli headed over when he perhaps had more time following Toby Alderweireld's pinpoint long ball. "Manchester City last season, Chelsea the season before - they all concede chances like this, but if you are going to win, you need to defend well".

"They are so hard to find and are the difference between very good players and the ones who can drag the lesser lights through difficult times".

Watford are dismissed as relegation fodder at the beginning of most campaigns, but they seem to relish this status as they have once again started the season in great shape.

"I think it is a very good wake-up call for everyone, to listen more about the reality and not the perception".

"That is why after the third game because we beat Manchester United and the circumstances that we beat them, we need to be more cautious".

"The reality is if you want to be a contender, then today we should win and win easy because everything was ready to win the game", Pochettino said.

"Before we talk, we need to show that we are contenders".

A lack of resources on the bench meant Pochettino was powerless to change things as Watford stormed to their shock win.

Javi Gracia's men joined Premier League leaders Liverpool and Chelsea with a maximum 12 points ahead of the global break.
