Sue Bird and the Seattle Storm Win 2018 WNBA Championship

Washington Mystics’ Natasha Cloud moves past the Storm’s Sue Bird and toward the basket in the first half of Game 2 of the WNBA Finals in Seattle on Sunday

A host of basketball and Seattle sports stars hailed the Storm on Wednesday night following their championship-clinching win over the Washington Mystics in Game 3 of the WNBA Finals.

"It doesn't feel real yet, honestly", WNBA Finals MVP Breanna Stewart said after the game.

The top five markets were: Seattle-Tacoma (3.6), Hartford & New Haven (1.7), Washington, DC (1.2), New Orleans (0.9), Memphis (0.9).

Bird has played on all three championship teams. The team, which formed in 1998, had been to the semifinals twice before this season, losing to NY in 2002 and to the eventual champion Minnesota Lynx in 2017.

But it was also a coming out party for Stewart, the league MVP, who delivered time and again.

Stewart was named the Finals Most Valuable Player to go with her regular season MVP award.

Seattle led 69-53 at the start of the fourth when Washington made one last push.

"This is probably one of the best things that has ever happened to me", said Stewart, who averaged 25.7 points in the Finals. The 2018 Most Improved Player, Natasha Howard added another dimension to the Storm this season, recording career-high averages of 13.2 points, 6.4 boards and 2.0 blocks per outing.

The location, George Mason University, marked the third arena Washington has called home this season and the second in the playoffs.

Stewart and Howard each scored 17 points in the first half as the Storm took a 47-30 lead.

"There's been a huge transformation with the culture of this team", said Delle Donne, who was acquired by Washington before the 2017 season. Celebrate Sue Bird, Breanna Stewart and all of Seattle with this licensed championship t-shirt. There is no doubt in the back of my mind that the Washington Mystics will be back next year contending for a championship and now that rookies like Ariel Atkins have playoff experience, the Mystics now know what it takes to get back to the promise land. "She's kind of helped me get to this point, and like you said, if there was one person on this team that I wanted to win it with it was her". "The WNBA is the best league in the world and to be able to be so successful so soon ... obviously a lot of credit goes to my teammates, Sue and our coaching staff". In Game 2, the Mystics missed all 16 of their three-point attempts, any of which would have been the difference in a two-point loss.

The Mystics, on the other hand, didn't have a single player score in double figures, and only had two points off the bench.

"There was a moment at the end with like a minute or so left, I think it was the last timeout when we had a chance to huddle and I said, 'Guys we did this". "[Turnovers have] just stopped us from getting into the flow we want to get into".
