Liberia president is 'oldest international' ever — George Weah

President George Weah Plays In A Friendly For Liberia Against Nigeria… 15 Years After Retiring

The worldwide match in Monrovia was organised to "retire" the number 14 shirt worn by Weah, who was voted world, European and African footballer of the year in 1995.

Former Fifa World Player of the Year and current president of Liberia, George Weah, played for his country in an worldwide friendly on Tuesday against Nigeria, despite being 51.

Weah, 51, now many kilogrammes overweight and far from fit, played for 79 minutes in a game the Eagles won 2-1.

On Tuesday evening, he played against Nigeria during a friendly.

This, we can safely say, was probably the last time we'll see the former Fifa World Player of the Year take to a football pitch.

Liberia's President George Weah laughs during a news conference at the Presidential Palace in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, April 4, 2018.

Henry Onyekuru and Simeon Nwanko were on target for the Super Eagles before Liberia pulled a goal back courtesy of Kpah Sherman.

The striker made a name for himself in Europe after moving to Monaco in 1988 before also playing for Paris St Germain, AC Milan, Chelsea, Manchester City and Marseille.

His popularity and achievements as an African footballer helped him secure Liberia presidency in December 2017.

He would later move to PSG, where he would become the one and only African player to win the Ballon d'Or in 1995.

Weah, a former world footballer of the year and African footballer of the year, said that Nigerian football had always inspired him.
