Trump blasts 'Wacky Omarosa' after leaked tape: 'Vicious but not smart'

President Trump took aim Monday morning at his former aide and fellow reality TV star Omarosa Manigault Newman, who is now shopping both a tell-all about and tapes from inside the White House.

She was previously best known for repeatedly being fired on NBC's "The Apprentice" and was one of Trump's more visible African-American supporters during his 2016 election campaign. In his tweet, he claimed she "begged me for a job, tears in her eyes".

On Saturday, reporters asked Trump during an event at his golf club in New Jersey if he felt betrayed by Manigault Newman.

NBC News and other outlets reported at the time that Newman had been escorted out of the White House after she tried to enter the presidential residence in response to hearing she'd been fired.

Trump seemed to suggest she was pretty smart back in 2013. "Nasty to people & would constantly miss meetings & work", he continued to rail. It appears to show Trump expressing surprise, saying "nobody even told me about it".

I'd often see her float in and out of White House events, leaving them early if they got boring, or showing her friends around the place and inviting them to the White House mess for coffee. That includes audio of her being fired by chief of staff John Kelly in December (she says she wasn't fired but forced to resign). And she also promised she has more audio recordings and is considering releasing them.

During the August 13 episode of the TODAY show, she played an audio recording of a conversation she claims went down one day after her firing, per NBC News.

Sanders called Newman a "disgruntled former White House employee".

"General Kelly - General Kelly came to me and said that you guys wanted me to leave", Newman said on the tape, referring to Kelly, a retired Marine general.

The Associated Press purchased a copy of the book ahead of its release.

Spicer rebutted Manigault Newman's claim that he signed a non-disclosure agreement and called her assertion that he was paid hush money "false".

On Sunday, Ms. Manigault Newman provided audio of Mr. Kelly firing her in the White House's Situation Room to NBC's "Meet the Press". "What happened?" he said, apparently unaware she had already been fired.

As he fired her, according to the recording, Kelly told Manigault Newman, "I think it's important to understand that if we make this a friendly departure, we can all be, you know, you can look at your time here in the White House as a year of service to the nation".

Here's what he said at September 2016 rally in OH (with emphases added): "Don't leave Omarosa - she's a wonderful woman - don't leave". It was recorded in the situation room at the White House, a highly secure complex of conference rooms where personal electronics are banned. What I can tell you is, the thought of doing something like that to a fellow employee, not to mention, the leader of the free world is completely disgraceful, ' he said.

The White House Situation Room is supposed to be a top-security room and electronic devices are banned there, but it was not immediately clear whether Manigault Newman would face legal ramifications for releasing the recording.

Manigault Newman wrote in the book that she had not personally heard the recording.
