Sarri not aiming to repeat Napoli formula at Chelsea

Wagner celebrates Huddersfield securing their Premier League survival last season

The signing of Jorginho from Napoli means that Kante will have fewer holding midfield responsibilities for the season ahead and the recent World Cup victor has been instructed to play further up the pitch in Sarri's new system.

Although manager Maurizio Sarri had encouraged fans to be patient as he looked to install his football philosophy - known as "Sarri-ball" - at Chelsea, the club made the ideal start.

Sarri's first win came courtesy of goals from N'Golo Kante, plus a penalty from new boy Jorginho and another from Pedro, sealing a performance that could most accurately be called efficient rather than spectacular.

Steve Mounie was agonisingly denied by the crossbar as Huddersfield created their fair share of opportunities in the first-half, but the Terriers lacked quality and a bit of fortune in the final third.

"I don't know, he has always kicked the penalty like this", Sarri shrugged.

Chelsea started the first-half with the same languid approach that had optimised their pre-season, lacking any pace and incisiveness on the turn, instead reverting to an impassive and disjointed accumulation of short five-yard balls and careless clearances.

Kante is already recognised as one of the better midfielders in Europe for his ability to appear in many places at one time defensively.

Hazard sliced through Huddersfield's defence down the middle before setting up Pedro, who drove home a low angled shot into the bottom corner.

Courtois, 26, said he wanted to move to be closer to his children in Madrid and did not return to Stamford Bridge after playing for his side in the World Cup.

"Jorginho is not a physical player, he is a technical player", Sarri added.

We made too many mistakes and missed our chances.

80' - GOAL! Huddersfield 0-3 Chelsea: A classic goal on the counter-attack from the Blues. The return of the industrious Kante no doubt helped him focus on the areas he excels in. Could they be potential title challengers this season?
