Tom Brady close to signing contract adjustment with New England Patriots

11-ON-11 PERFORMANCES

Bill Belichick was asked Friday if he had any update on a report Brady was dealing with a back issue. "No".

Rookie Derrius Guice's much-anticipated debut season in the National Football League is already over before it began.

While the Redskins have been rotating their running backs in training camp, coaches have been pleased with Guice's development, and teammates anticipated him being the opening-game starter.

Guice hyperextended his left knee at LSU last season but was held out of only one game.

Per NFL's Ian Rapoport, there was hope Guice had only suffered an MCL injury, but the young running back's walk off the plane "was concerning". Washington will now rely on Rob Kelley and Samaje Perine to be their primary backs, while Chris Thompson will continue his role as a third-down specialist. ACL tears typically take at least six months to recover from and the track record of being the same player has been mixed.

Still, Guice's injury continues the streak of bad luck for the organization. The Athletic and ESPN reported Brady expected his pending contract adjustment to be in place before Week 1 of the regular season.

The injury to his knee occured early in 26-17 loss to the New England Patriots on Thursday night.

The team said tight end Manasseh Garner, a long shot to make the roster, is out for the season with an ACL injury.
