Kelvin Benjamin Explains Why He Walked Away From Cam Newton During Confrontation

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton

Carolina at Buffalo is one of 12 games on the preseason schedule this Thursday night. In fact, things may have escalated.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton walked over towards Buffalo Bills receiver Kelvin Benjamin before the Bills-Panthers NFL scrimmage in Buffalo Thursday.

According to The Charlotte Observer's Jourdan Rodrigue, there was no smiling involved and Benjamin "shrugged [Newton] off mid-sentence" and started to walk away.

Newton later waved off Benjamin in apparent frustration before the two parted ways for the remainder of warmups. The receiver, who spent three years in Carolina, trashed Newton.

"It was a bad fit from the get-go", Kelvin told The Athletic. "It just felt like I wasn't in that position".

Benjamin was later asked if this was at all hard for him considering how close he and Newton were when his career began in Carolina. He responded on social media in his Instagram story.

For those who haven't heard, Benjamin didn't hold back in his public criticism of his former teammate.

These preseason games are pivotal for the players as some try to work off rust from the offseason, while others try to move up the depth chart or even are fighting for a spot on the 53-man roster.

Benjamin was traded last season to Buffalo after his production declined in the aftermath of an ACL injury.
