Former Harrisburg standout Robert Martin has strong debut with New York Giants

Baker Mayfield Browns

Baker Mayfield is expected to receive significant playing time in the Browns preseason opener.

The preseason can never be taken too seriously, but by all accounts, Mayfield had an exceptional debut on Thursday night against the New York Giants. It was impressive to see Mayfield patiently roll through his progressions - eyes scanning the field - before finding the massive-bodied tight end near the back of the end zone.

In today's featured article, one National Football League analyst believes that Mayfield's debut should give the Browns hope for long-term stability at the quarterback position.

Rookie Baker Mayfield may have put together a solid outing by completing 11-of-20 passes for 212 yards, and a pair of touchdown passes, Taylor looks to have further strengthened the confidence in him from the coaching staff. He continued marching the offense, twice keeping the drive alive with his legs - on third-and-6 and fourth-and-2 - to set up Cleveland with first-and-goal. He appeared finished by the second quarter; he had four total carries for 43 yards.

The Browns' first official game of the regular season takes place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9 against the Pittsburgh Steelers at FirstEnergy Stadium.
