Sony unveils translucent PS4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition to celebrate sales

A Limited Edition 2TB PS4 Pro Is Being Released To Celebrate 500 Million PlayStations Sold

The PlayStation brand has been around for nearly 24 years at this point, and in that time, Sony has sold a lot of consoles - more than 500 million, in fact. This particular system is limited to 50,000 units worldwide, so if you want one, you best hurry. It comes with a matching DualShock 4 wireless controller, PlayStation camera, vertical stand, and mono headset.

Those of you lucky enough to snap one up will also receive a commemorative copper plate, featuring a limited edition serial number. Now, 24 years and four generations of hardware later, Sony is celebrating selling 500 million consoles.

Sony is to release a specially designed PS4 as a thank-you to PlayStation fans for helping the platform surpass 525.3 million unit sales worldwide. Serial number 09995, for example, commemorates the United States launch date of the original PlayStation; 01115 commemorates the United States launch date of PlayStation 4; and 01013 commemorates the United States launch date of PlayStation VR.

For starters, the 500 Million Limited Edition features a translucent design in a catching dark blue paint job with matching DualShock 4 controller. The system goes on sale on August 24 - keep an eye on the console's official page for a list of participating retailers. In celebration of this feat, Sony is making a limited edition PS4 Pro system that's blue and translucent and super slick.

Every time a special edition console is released I do wonder who buys them, I can't see the point of them myself.

In addition, a limited-edition Gold Wireless Headset and wireless controller will be sold separately.
