Some Sonic the Hedgehog fans may not be familiar with Schwartz, and may be anxious about his ability to do Sonic justice on the big screen. There's Dewy from the new Duck Tales, who is blue.

Variety reports Ben Schwartz is set to voice Sonic the Hedgehog himself in the upcoming feature film adaptation from Paramount Pictures.

Some context for the above tweet, this isn't the first iconic "blue" character from the 90s that Schwartz has voiced.

Ben Schwartz is stepping into the role of one of the most beloved video game characters of all time.

Now shooting under Paramount Pictures, the live action Sonic the Hedgehog film also features former X-Men actor James Marsden among its growing cast, with director Jeff Fowler at the helm, noted for receiving an Oscar nod for 2005 animated short "Gopher Broke". A little known fact about Schwartz is that he was also credited under "Vocal Consultants" in Star Wars: The Force Awakens' BB-8. "It will be live-action", Carrey said, regarding the movie. Visual effects master and Deadpool director Tim Miller is on board as an executive producer and Neal H. Moritz (the Fast and Furious franchise) is producing too.

The Sonic movie is being directed by Jeff Fowler, whose 2005 animated movie Gopher Broke was nominated for an Oscar.

Carrey finalized negotiations to play the Sonic villain earlier this summer, and is now confirmed to portray him in the upcoming 2019 film.
