Sarri admits there is a big difference between Chelsea and Manchester City

Manchester City celebrate winning the Community Shield match and hold the trophy

The Community Shield has been contested annually as the curtain-raiser for the English football season since 1908 when Manchester United defeated Queens Park Rangers.

A squad of largely fringe and youth players made the trip to the States, where City lost 1-0 and 2-1 to Dortmund and Liverpool before coming from 2-0 down to beat Bayern.

Given a chance by Pep Guardiola to start the Community Shield after a series of impressive displays in pre-season, the 18-year-old took to the big stage like a duck to water to give the Citizens a major boost ahead of the Premier League season. "So we have to work".

"We have very good midfielders, but maybe a midfielder with different characteristics [would be a good fit]".

With N'Golo Kante unavailable they looked the opposite of City, with play pedestrian and touches frequently heavy, especially in the final third.

The spotlight though, will surely be on summer signing Jorginho, who will be key in implementing the Chelsea manager's "Sarri-ball" philosophy. We were told to expect 'Sarri-ball, ' that Chelsea's new Italian coach would bring a brand of exciting, dynamic football to the Premier League.

Here is how we rated the Chelsea players at Wembley.

But Guardiola says that the Community Shield match marks not a continuation of his team's historic 2017/2018 season - but a new beginning. The central midfielder seemed perturbed by the imposing figures of Bernando Silva and Phil Foden, getting caught in possession by the City stalwarts.

There were loud cheers from the Chelsea end when Jorginho's name was read out before kick-off - and plenty of jeers from the City end, too.

Courtois' agent was quoted as saying over the weekend that the goalkeeper, who was sent to Atletico Madrid on loan for three years, now wants to move back to the Spanish capital to be close to his children. Callum Hudson-Odoi looked most unsafe for Chelsea, but the Blues missed N'Golo Kante in midfield and struggled to create opportunities in the final third of the pitch.

"I have no reaction on the agent". "I have to speak with my club. I have [nothing] to answer to the agent".

Last season City enjoyed much success as they won the Premier League title in spectacular fashion and also lifted the League Cup.

City has already broken its transfer record, signing Riyad Mahrez last month for 60 million pounds (then $80 million). Influential talisman and ex-Chelsea player, Kevin de Bruyne, will not figure in midfield so soon after his return from the World Cup and the inexperienced Lukas Nmecha may well be given at least some time up front.
