Liverpool legend Aldridge branded Lovren 'accident waiting to happen' before Croatia triumph

Henderson and Lovren

Lovren was a defensive rock as Croatia came from behind to beat England in the semi-final on Wednesday and seal a date with France in Moscow on Sunday.

Oblak has established himself as one of the world's very best goalkeepers during his four years with Atlético Madrid and the Slovenian global would represent a major summer coup for Liverpool, if a deal can be struck.

Lovren came in for criticism in the first-half of last season, in particular when he was hooked half-an-hour into a 4-1 defeat by Tottenham at Wembley.

'I think people should recognise that I am also one of the best defenders in the world and not just talk nonsense'.

Leicester City will face a real fight to keep hold of the no-nonsense defender following the competition and it remains to be seen whether one of the top clubs can entice him out of the King Power Stadium. I really didn't understand. "But whatever, this is what gets me to work hard and prove everyone wrong".

At the 1998 World Cup, they exited at the semi-final stage to France. Before this game they said we are exhausted but we showed in extra-time we had fresher legs than them.

"The difference was mental - because we knew we could write history and we did it". This is what I wanted.

"[In Croatia] we went through a lot of s***, war, all these things and even now the situation is not the best".

"If somebody told me at the start of the season that I would be in two of the biggest finals in the world I would have signed straight away".

He wrote for the Irish Independent: "I give Lovren credit for rebuilding his Liverpool career after that and there is no doubt that the arrival of Virgil van Dijk in the January transfer window helped him to put in a better second half of the season, but I'm still not convinced he can relied upon every time he takes to the field".
