The England boss was amused at the prospect of fans both in Russian Federation and back at home observing Waistcoat Wednesday in tribute to the man who has guided the nation to within perhaps just 90 minutes of a first final since 1966.

Croatia beat England 2-1 in extra-time thanks to a Mario Mandzukic goal in the second period of extra-time to book a date with France in Moscow on Sunday.

The dozens of fans on hand were lively through the nail-biting match but ended on a quiet note, as Croatia earned a 2-1 win in overtime to move on to the World Cup Final.

He said all the major supermarkets were shutting in Croatia for the match and the whole country would be watching.

England Football Tweeted to their fans to thank them for support throughout the Russian Federation 2018 campaign.

"We are deservedly in the final", he said.

Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic said their extra-time victory was deserved and his players were not yet finished despite playing a lot of football in the past three rounds.

Croatia had twice needed penalties to get to this stage, first in the round of 16, where they beat Denmark, then in the quarterfinals, where they beat hosts Russian Federation, two shootouts that made goalkeeper Danijel Subašić a hero.

Croatia were a goal down against Denmark in the last-16 as well as against Russian Federation in the quarter-finals, before equalising and forcing extra time and penalty shootouts to advance. We're gutted, we've worked so hard and the fans were incredible. I'm devastated for them.

Bitter disappointment was mixed with pride for England fans who witnessed the Three Lions' lose their first World Cup semi-final in decades. I've seen him do the same thing time and time again at this World Cup.

As more players piled on, they crashed into the photographers. The footage, which circulated overnight into Sunday, drew a mixed response.

"I thought that we absolutely played them out the game in the first half".

In Hyde Park, one of central London's most popular tourist attractions, a huge screen had been temporarily installed to allow 30,000 fans to watch the semifinal.

And while he said his bar was likely to be full with Croatia and England fans, Mr Colgan won't be working, making sure he can enjoy the match. It's the talented France team that has put all of the talent together and improved in the group stage against a Croatia team whose veterans have stepped up big to pull off a surprising run to the final.
