Supreme Court nominee Kavanaugh is a BIG baseball fan

President Donald Trump talks with Judge Brett Kavanaugh and Kavanaugh’s family after nominating him to the Supreme Court

Part of the debt is linked to Washington Nationals season tickets and tickets for baseball playoff games that Kavanaugh bought for himself and friends. The general consensus was that pointing out that Kavanaugh loves baseball, has the trust of his friends, and pays off his debts was not likely to be much of a political liability in a Senate Judiciary Committee meeting. Shah told The Post that Kavanaugh's friends reimbursed him for their share of the baseball tickets and that the judge has since stopped purchasing the season tickets.

The records also showed that Kavanaugh, a federal appellate judge nominated by President Donald Trump to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy, had between $45,000 and $150,000 in credit card debt in 2016, which was paid off by the following year.

Shah also told the Washington Post that the Kavanaughs have no debt beyond their home mortgage.

According to disclosures filed for 2016, Kavanaugh reported accrued debt of between $60,000 to $200,000 spread out over three credit card accounts and a personal loan. "Each credit card had between "$15,000 and $50,000 in debt, and a Thrift Savings Plan loan was between $15,000 and $50,000".

Still, Kavanaugh "has assets of almost $1 million between the equity in his home and his retirement account", according to the report.

'Judge Kavanaugh is a brilliant jurist who has dedicated his life to public service, ' Shah said. He lists just two kinds of assets - unspecified accounts held with Bank of America and his wife's retirement fund from employment in Texas - totaling between $15,000 to $65,000.

As senators begin the process of vetting Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, public disclosure forms show he's not almost as wealthy as numerous justices on the high court.

Justice Neil Gorsuch, appointed by Trump last year, reported assets of at least $3.6 million, and the average net worth of current members of the court was $4.6 million last year, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

While the federal financial reporting requirements do not mandate that home values be included on the disclosure forms, the Yahoo! report said that Kavanaugh and his wife paid $1.2 million for their home in 2006.

Since then, they have refinanced the home twice - most recently in 2015. The justice with the highest reported assets was Stephen Breyer, who listed between $6.4 million and $16.6 million.

U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel brought a striking visual aid - a wire coat hanger - to a briefing for reporters in Washington, D.C., as a way of dramatizing the importance of abortion rights in the debate over whether Brett Kavanaugh should be confirmed as a Supreme Court justice.
