Serie A manager wants to reunite with out of favour Chelsea star

Conte guided Chelsea to the FA Cup last season but is set to leave the club this summer

This remains a problem for all four parties involved. Why?

Chelsea have been in talks with both Napoli and Antonio Conte as they try and sort their managerial situation.

According to Goal, Chelsea's players remain unclear on who will take charge when the technical work begins with Maurizio Sarri still strongly linked.

Confirming Chelsea are close to finally making a breakthrough, De Laurentiis said: "The Sarri deal is in the home stretch, it depends on him". I can understand if the player prefers to live in London than in Manchester, and if Chelsea pays him more I can understand that too.

For their part, Napoli have already replaced Sarri with former Blues manager Carlo Ancelotti, who started the new role on July 1.

Conte led Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season in England in 2016-17 and followed up that achievement with the FA Cup triumph this year, but his relationship with the board became damaged beyond fix, highlighted by his repeated public and private complaints about transfer policy. "As a matter of fact, I will apologize to Khaldoon [Al Mubarak], because I found a deal with Khaldoon 15 days ago", De Laurentiis said.

Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed that Chelsea is close to completing a €65million (£57.5m) combined deal to appoint Maurizio Sarri as their new head coach and sign Italy global midfielder Jorginho.

The attacker hinted he partly blamed Conte for missing out on selection for Spain's squad for the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer.

That takes the total amount the compensation the London club has paid out in recent times up to a remarkable £89.3M.

That culminated in a disappointing fifth-place league finish and an FA Cup win.

De Laurentiis went on to add that "Jorginho would go to Chelsea regardless of Sarri".
