Senate intel committee concludes Putin personally approved meddling to aid Donald Trump

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Sen. Richard Burr R-N.C. said in a statement Tuesday

It also said that further details have come to light that "bolster" the ICA's findings about the extent of Russia's efforts to undermine the USA -led liberal global order and hinted at new findings by the committee that have "exposed a far more extensive Russian effort to manipulate social media outlets to sow discord".

The Committee found that the ICA provided a range of all-source reporting to support these assessments.

The Senate report also rejects claims that the so-called Steele dossier-a set of memos by a former British intelligence agent-informed the intelligence community finding that Russian Federation interfered in the election. Democrats on the House panel said the Republican-controlled panel had not interviewed enough witnesses or gathered enough evidence to make a definitive assessment.

While Republicans in the House have openly aimed to discredit the Justice Department's investigation into the Trump campaign's Russian ties, Tuesday's seven-page report saw the Senate committee's Republicans siding with USA intelligence and law enforcement, including the FBI.

Tuesday's report flies in the face of a flurry of attacks from Trump and his allies, who frequently accuse U.S. intelligence and law-enforcement agencies of bias and political corruption.

"The Committee has spent the last 16 months reviewing the sources, tradecraft and analytic work underpinning the Intelligence Community Assessment and sees no reason to dispute the conclusions", Burr said in his statement.

As reported by CNN, the unclassified summary released on Tuesday provides details on why the Senate committee agreed with intelligence agencies that Russian interference may have helped Trump.

As numerous intelligence and national security officials in the Trump administration have since unanimously re-affirmed, the ICA findings were accurate and on point. One of the issues it will investigate is an allegation by former British spy Christopher Steele, that Kremlin has some damaging information on Trump. Speaking to reporters, trump also said that during the summit on July 16, he will discuss the conflicts in Syria and Ukraine and other worldwide issues. Warner of Virginia - have both made previous statements supporting the intelligence community's assessment.

Trump and his associates are the focus of an FBI investigation into whether his campaign colluded with Moscow to influence the election - something the president and his allies have vehemently denied.

On the legislative side, it was just a week ago that the committee advanced a two-year authorization for intelligence programs including language created to bolster election security, including improving information-sharing with state and local election officials. Former campaign chairman Paul Manafort also stands charged with over 20 counts but has pleaded not guilty.

So far, the special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation has yielded 19 indictments and five guilty pleas, including from former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and former deputy campaign chairman Rick Gates.

The congressional investigations have overlapped in part with the criminal probe of Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

"The Committee found that the analytical disagreement was reasonable, transparent, and openly debated among the agencies and analysts, with analysts, managers, and agency heads on both sides of the confidence level articulately justifying their positions", the committee wrote in Tuesday afternoon update of its still-ongoing review of actions taken by Russian Federation.

Senate investigators also rejected the notion that the ICA was inappropriately influenced by politics, as some of Trump's supporters have alleged.

The CIA and Federal Bureau of Investigation made their assessment with "high" confidence, while the NSA's was only "moderate".

House Republicans have contended the Russian Federation probe went south because it depended on an anti-Trump dossier gathered by former British spy Christopher Steele and financed by Democrats and Clinton's campaign.
