Walmart pulls "Impeach 45" T-shirts after Trump supporters threaten boycott

Walmart causes outrage after selling ‘Impeach 45’ merchandise on its website move sparks boycott

As of early Tuesday morning, the "Impeach 45" clothing was still available on Walmart's website.

Walmart has taken apparel which encourages President Donald Trump's impeachment off the market in the wake of a public outcry from Trump supporters. There's also mens and juniors shirts that read "45 You're Fired", using Trump's facing line from his former show "The Apprentice".

CafePress has had "Impeach Trump" shirts, caps and throw pillows available on in the past as well, and still offers anti-Trump items along with pro-Trump items.

For much of the day the hashtag #boycottWalmart trended in the United States, catching the attention of Trump supporters including Lynette Hardaway and Rochelle Richardson, who are better known as Diamond and Silk.

Walmart sells a myriad of "Make America Great Again" items, such as hats, T-shirts and coffee mugs. We have reached out to Walmart for comment, and will update this story with more details when the company responds.

The shirt was not sold directly by Walmart but through its open marketplace by a third-party seller, Walmart said in a tweet to Fournier Tuesday afternoon.

In the past, Walmart has issued statements after these incidents saying: "This item was sold by a third-party seller on our marketplace and clearly violates our policy".

Teespring had their shirts pulled off the Walmart website days later.

Neil Saunders, managing director of consulting firm GlobalData Retail said Walmart's decision to remove the anti-Trump merchandise made sense given the company's profile. "Tree. Journalist. SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED" was listed on its website through an outside company.

Walmart in 2017 also removed shirts with the phrase "Rope".
