Celebrities welcome LeBron James to the Los Angeles Lakers

The iconic LeBron James banner is coming down Tuesday as he embarks on a new journey to the west coast, according to Sherwin-Williams.

The Lakers were also reportedly targeting New Orleans free agent center DeMarcus Cousins.

The deal for the three-times National Basketball Association champion gives the Lakers a stability that his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, did not enjoy in recent years as James opted for shorter-term contacts when he returned to the Cavs in 2014 after four seasons in Miami. This is especially true considering that James agreed to a multi-year deal, which is something he was not willing to do with Dan Gilbert and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

That has supposedly put some teams off making a move as they face the potential risk of trading away several assets for essentially a one-year loan with Leonard able to leave on as a free agent in 2019.

James and Ball have a decent supporting cast with Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma being extremely talented young players. The same can be said about McGee, Caldwell-Pope and Stephenson's respective contracts but it does seem as though the Lakers paid a premium on players that other teams weren't bending over backward to sign. Unfortunately for Lakers fans, the team made a decision to pass on the star big man this offseason. Los Angeles is viewed as the top free agency landing spot for Kawhi Leonard next offseason if they do not pull off a trade for him before then. While the 32-year-old point guard experienced something of a renaissance last season with the Pelicans and meets James' expressed preference for teammates who play with intelligence, he won't have the ball in his hands as much as he would like.

Fans in L.A. have been waiting for this kind of moment. They have not reached the playoffs since the 2012-13 season when they lost in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
