Cristiano Ronaldo's bust at Madeira airport has been quietly replaced

Hey, remember that bronze Cristiano Ronaldo bust that we all had a good laugh about previous year?

Emanuel Santos came to global notoriety when his freaky looking bust of Ronaldo was widely mocked online for its questionable resemblance to the player, after it was placed on display at the airport past year.

Some compared its likeness to former Republic of Ireland captain Niall Quinn, but sculptor Emanuel Santos said his work was just "a matter of taste". That's right, the Cristiano Ronaldo sculpture at Madeira Islands airport is no more.

The infamous bust of Cristiano Ronaldo at Madeira Airport has been replaced, but an online petition has been launched to have the original brought back.

The widely mocked bronze bust at Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport in Madeira, Portugal, was replaced Friday with a new one bearing a stronger resemblance to the Real Madrid star.

Bleacher Report commissioned Mr Santos to have a second attempt at the bust, which he completed in order to show his son that "if he enjoys doing something very much, [he] doesn't let himself be defeated by negative criticism".

"We consider that the bust is more an attraction for our island today and we can not accept in any way its replacement", the petition said. The views expressed therein are not necessarily those of stlucianewsonline.com, its sponsors or advertisers.
