Kawhi Leonard wants out of San Antonio with Lakers his top destination

Kawhi Leonard has played seven seasons with the Spurs. More

After months of controversy and rumors, San Antonio Spurs superstar Kawhi Leonard wants out of the team and a trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Thus, everyone has been dreaming up their own Kawhi Leonard trade scenario with the Los Angeles Lakers. In the 2016-17 season, Leonard averaged 25.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

People close to the Spurs forward have expressed a desire for Leonard to play for the New York Knicks, according to ESPN's Ian Begley, however, Leonard hasn't expressed a desire to play for the Knicks.

The Spurs can offer Leonard a massive extension this summer, one that would be worth about $219 over five seasons and would begin in 2019-20. They have a number of promising young players such as Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier in addition to multiple first-round draft picks that they have acquired over the years.

Leonard's leverage in stopping a trade to a place like Boston or Philadelphia is his threat to not pick up his player's option or re-sign there, because of his desire to go to L.A. or NY.

While interested in the Spurs star, so far the Lakers haven't had any trade discussions about Leonard.

The Spurs have other draft prospects to evaluate in the meantime, as they now hold the No. 18 pick in the first round. Is that enough? Probably not, but there's not really anything else between the two teams that makes sense. "Now that Leonard reportedly wants out, anything is possible".

Additionally, even if Leonard prefers a certain destination, it won't stop others from pursuing him. They offered a deal to the Spurs, but they declined the trade and never sent a counter offer.

The Los Angles Clippers are another team that interests Leonard.
