Category 3 Hurricane Bud threatens Mexico, Southwest U.S.

Hurricane Bud is seen near Mexico's Pacific coast at 8:00 a.m. ET on Monday

Hurricane Bud is churning off the coast of western Mexico in the Pacific Ocean Tuesday as a Category 3 hurricane with winds of 125 miles per hour.

Forecasters say Bud is expected to strengthen further before a slow weakening trend starts Tuesday. The National Hurricane Center issued a Tropical Storm Watch from Manzanillo to Cabo Corrientes, Mexico.

The storm may bring 3 to 6 inches across much of the area, with some locations seeing up to 10 inches of rain through Thursday. This media house does not correct any spelling or grammatical error within press releases and commentaries. "Bud is forecast to weaken below hurricane intensity by Wednesday night".

Forecasters have warned Hurricane Bud will produce heavy rain which could cause life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides, especially in high-terrain areas. Risky ocean swells and rip currents may commence Tuesday.

The 2015 season began with Category 4 Hurricane Andres followed by Category 4 Hurricane Blanca, the record-earliest-in-season second eastern Pacific hurricane and major hurricane, which later became the record-earliest Baja California landfall, as a tropical storm.

Hurricane Bud, now a Category 3 storm with winds of 125 miles per hour, continued to spin off Mexico's west coast Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center said. Middle Georgia is forecast to have either a very small chance of above average rainfall or near normal rainfall. According to the hurricane center, Bud should decrease in speed over the next few days as it approaches land. A near-normal season has three to five tropical cyclones, and an above-normal season has six or more tropical cyclones, according to the NOAA.

The eastern Pacific hurricane season is forecast to be quite active, thanks in part to a developing El Niño.
