Trump, Kim Agree On Denuclearization, But Deal Seen Symbolic (2 Videos)

Photos taken just 48 hours apart show the contrast in President Donald Trump's meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the G7 summit over the weekend and his talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday.

During the signing ceremony, the two leaders sat side by side at an expansive wooden table decorated with white flowers and were flanked on either side by American and North Korean flags, The new Straits Times reported.

Members of the U.S. delegation, including USA secretary of state Mike Pompeo, right, and John Bolton, national security adviser, left, and North Korean advisers watch a television screen showing the meeting.

"We don't know what type of person the North Korean leader is negotiating with".

Mr Trump made the remarks as he and Mr Kim walked around Singapore's Capella hotel after a working lunch aimed at discussing ways to end the nuclear standoff on the Korean peninsula. "We're going now for a signing", Trump told journalists, without giving details on what would be signed.

"It worked out far better for both of us than anybody could have expected", he added.

"We will be stopping the war games which will save us a tremendous amount of money", Trump told reporters. "Plus, it is very provocative".

Rodman became visibly choked up during a live interview on CNN, in which he said he felt vindicated for believing that North Korea would embrace peace.

Trump's declarations are likely to alarm conservatives in South Korea, who have appealed to him not to put their country's security at risk.

With reference to the Korean war Trump said. "They are tremendously expensive". As North Korea's closest ally and largest trading partner, China occupies a significant role in North Korean affairs. That has to do with the military expense and also the trade. "Our forces in South Korea are stabilizing for Asia". We have to talk to them. "We pay for a big majority of them".

The move could diminish the USA military's ability to "fight tonight", a term American commanders have used for years to describe the heightened posture of US forces in one of the world's most-sensitive military flashpoints. He pointed to a "freeze for freeze" happening between the US and North Korea to illustrate the point. Randall Schriver, the Pentagon's assistant secretary of defense for Asian and Pacific security affairs, was in Singapore for the summit as part of the US delegation, and will return to Washington as the Pentagon considers its next moves.

A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson also suggested that sanctions against North Korea could be lifted following the summit, Reuters reports.

Russian Federation is prepared to help in implementing the deal toward the complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula - and hopes settling the nuclear crisis will spark normal economic cooperation, RIA news agency quoted Ryabkov as saying. "I'm very open-minded to security agreements and to economic incentives to North Korea".

Trump disclosed no cost for the exercises, and the Pentagon did not respond to requests for that information Tuesday morning.

"The Reality TV-Star Trump just pulled off the photo-op of a lifetime", said Beatrice Fihn, executive director of Nobel Peace Prize 2017 victor International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

Trump said that "scientifically" denuclearisation takes a very long time, but once you start the process the "nukes" can't be used.

"You can't get everything". We'll be doing something on it.

A spokeswoman for USA military forces in Korea said they had not received any direction to cease joint military drills. This is it? This is, well, pathetic given that the U.S. president was personally involved.

"I don't mind putting these exercises on hold".
