Chief Executive Officer Elon Musktweeted Sunday that the company would release a new version of its software with "full self-driving features" in August.
On June 9, Musk tweeted that "10 small rocket thrusters" will come as part of the "Space X option package", claiming they will "dramatically improve acceleration" and possibly even "allow a Tesla to fly".
The roll out news comes as the electric auto maker faces several investigations over crashes involving it's autopilot system. Autopilot resources, he said, had so far "rightly focused entirely on safety". The stock is also in the green in after-hours activity. Most cars lack the lidar sensors and 360-degree cameras that can be used to detect lanes, obstacles, and traffic-sensors that are ubiquitous in autonomous test vehicles.

The role of Autopilot in some accidents involving Tesla vehicles has raised some controversies about the technology.
Musk said that issue would be addressed in the most current Autopilot update and "fully fixed" in the August update.
But the concern is whether Tesla's vehicles will be up to doing that safely.
Enabling "full self-driving" would make good on a promise by electric-vehicle company Tesla two years ago when it began equipping all new cars with the necessary hardware for full self-driving.
Elon Musk made a surprise unveiling back in November 2017 when he presented the new Roadster.
Musk says that the SpaceX package could contain as many as 10 thrusters "arranged seamlessly around the vehicle".
Tesla's Autopilot driver assistance system has had its share of controversy, but the latest Autopilot controversy stems from a third-party accessory. The Tesla Roadster will hit 100mph 2.3 seconds later, and Musk says it'll have a top speed of something like 250 miles per hour.
Musk also said the package would remove the vehicle's rear seats and advised that it would not be suited for urban areas.
