Liverpool interested in Stoke's Shaqiri

Liverpool transfer news Mohamed Salah Jurgen Klopp

He continued: "We need three or four players in, but if we get that, I think we can genuinely challenge Manchester City".

The 26-year-old Swiss sensation has already clarified that his future lies elsewhere but prefers to remain in Premier League.

Still wiping the tears from their loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League, Liverpool might take advantage of Stoke's relegation and sign one of their best players - Swiss worldwide Shaqiri, who is in the squad to the World Cup for the third time in his career.

Liverpool were close to signing Shaqiri from Bayern in the summer of 2014 and were the player's preferred option at the time.

Liverpool have been linked with a transfer for the Stoke City star, who has a £12million release clause in his contract after the Potters were relegated to the Championship.

"No player will leave the club that is contractually with the club unless the club feel it is a good deal and the right deal for them".

"He's said he will definitely be staying in England". It is believed Shaqiri does have a relegation release clause and though the exact figure is unknown, Stoke are set to receive offers this month.

Shaqiri made his name at FC Basel after coming through their youth ranks before earning a move to Bayern Munich in 2012 where he helped win two Bundesliga titles and the Champions League.

We'll have to see how things progress but competition for Shaqiri will increase if he impresses for Switzerland at the World Cup so Liverpool or Tottenham may want to act fast if they want to sign him.
