Residents and Emergency Crews Evacuate After New Fuego Volcano Eruption

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday night spoke with Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales, and offered him condolences for the deaths caused by the country's catastrophic volcanic eruption.

At least 72 people were killed in the eruption and more than 192 others are still missing.

Hernandez and her husband, Francisco Ortiz, survived because they moved out of Los Lotes just two months ago to begin a new life on a small plot of land.

Sunday's blast generated pyroclastic flows - fast-moving mixtures of very hot gas and volcanic matter - which descended down the slopes, engulfing communities including El Rodeo and San Miguel Los Lotes.

Figures for the dead were tweeted by Guatemala's National Institute of Forensic Sciences.

"We have some toiletries, like shampoo, toothpaste, toothtbrushes we are also including some cereral for the kids that are in shelters because we know they like them", said Geraldina Motta, director of Operation Blessing Guatemala.

A blanket of volcanic ash covered nearby town El Rodeo. Rescuers wearing hard hats, masks and goggles used shovels to dig through homes, unearthing at least one body burned beyond recognition.

Hundreds of rescue workers, including firefighters, police and the military, were battling adverse conditions to search for remains in the tangled morass of rubble, dust and earth left behind by the landslides. Vazquez said that the dog's name is Rambo. There are many people who are helping us, but we have absolutely nothing.

These funds will help "Guatemala Red Cross support 3,000 of the most vulnerable survivors for three months", they added.

"Animals have a different sort of resistance. and different behavior when it comes to finding refuge", Sanchez said. The U.S. Air Force is airlifting several injured children to the U.S. for medical treatment, while search crews are trying to recover the bodies of victims.

As rescuers work to search for almost 200 missing people, they're finding and rescuing pets as well.

The institute said there was a moderate flow of unsafe volcanic material down the volcano, and warned of the possibility of a strong flow in some areas.
