Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti signs new five-year deal

The France global put pen to paper on the five-year deal on Monday after agreeing terms in the past week.

Samuel Umtiti has agreed an extension on his current contract with Barcelona till 2023, the club announced on Sunday.

Josep Maria Bartomeu and Samuel Umtiti are now holding a press conference to give more details on the French defender's new contract at Barcelona which will run until 2023.

Barca have not yet revealed how much Umtiti's new release clause will be but a source told ESPN FC it will be "significantly more" than the current €60m.

Lluis Miguelsanz of Sport previously reported Manchester United were eyeing the defender and his meager €60 million (£52 million) buyout clause.

Umtiti has racked up 83 appearances for Barca in all competitions to date, scoring two goals.

The 24-year-old will sign the deal, which runs until the end of the 2022/23 season, on Monday at the Nou Camp. "I never saw myself in another team".

He was a major part of them winning La Liga this season and has just got better and better in his time at the Camp Nou.

The France worldwide, who is preparing to represent Les Bleus at the World Cup later this month, penned a new five-year contract extension at Barcelona on Sunday night.
