Sharapova is the favourite, claims Serena

She won 12 consecutive points on her serve in one stretch. "I've been injured so many times, and played on it, my body is used to adjusting".

Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova will meet in the last-16 of the French Open after both former champions eased through their third round matches on Saturday.

"They should follow the rules, otherwise play in the nude".

The two players met in the Paris final in 2013 and in the quarterfinal of the 2016 Australian Open, which was Sharapova's last match before a 15-month doping ban.

"Despite the record that I have against her, I always look forward to coming out on the court and competing against the best player".

Maria Sharapova is quietly going about her business in the ideal way at the French Open.

"I think people need to talk about it more because it's nearly like the fourth trimester", she also says to Bazaar.

Asked how it would feel to return to a main show court for her third-round match, she replied: "Do you know the schedule?"

This is Williams' first Grand Slam tournament since January 2017, when she won the Australian Open while pregnant.

Williams said she was stunned so much of Sharapova's book had focused on her.

"I thought there would be a lot of reactions over the outfit", she said. "It's because I want to get home to see [daughter] Olympia, because I have been here all day".

"It's been a few years since I have been back on the court; so if I do have a chance to play on it I will welcome it with open arms", she said after her second-round win over Donna Vekic. So it's just, like, I think it would be more shocking if I wasn't in tears.

Sharapova dropped just three games as she knocked out the sixth-seeded Czech Karolina Pliskova. Pliskova has led the WTA in aces the past three seasons - and is No. 2 in that category this year - but managed only one Saturday. It lasted just 59 minutes, such was the comfort with which Sharapova operated. "She gets out of matches or wins matches she has no right to win".

Romanian world No. 1 Simona Halep, who was scheduled on the new Court 18 located on the far end of the Roland Garros grounds, survived a tight first set against Andrea Petkovic before the German suffered a knee problem early in the second.

But Williams, who married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in mid-November following the birth of their daughter, said she is keen to have another child, and soon.

Third-seeded ex-champion Garbine Murguruza brushed aside Australia's Sam Stosur 6-0, 6-2 in 62 minutes.

But against Gorges she underlined her credentials, dominating from the start with a break in the fourth game and she took the first set with an emphatic smash.

"Quite frankly, she's probably a favourite in this match, for sure". She will face American Sloane Stephens after the 10th seed edged past Italy's Camila Giorgi 6-4, 6-1, 8-6.
