May 31st is celebrated widely as "World No Tobacco Day".

For today's World No Tobacco Day 2018, WHO has joined with the World Heart Federation and many other allies to raise awareness on the link between tobacco and cardiovascular diseases (CVD), which are the world's leading causes of death.

The measures include imposing tobacco taxes and prices, creating completely smoke-free indoor workplaces and public places. "Policies that regulate tobacco, promote smoke-free environments and encourage people to quit smoking will contribute to improving the health and well-being of all people". It has also been revealed that 7.1% in Andhra use smokeless tobacco which was way lesser than the national average of 21.4%.

"The percentage of adults who do not believe smoking causes stroke are for example in China as high as 73 percent, for heart attacks 61 percent of adults in China are not aware that smoking increases the risk", Bettcher said.

According to the director of non-communicable diseases at the Ministry of Health, Dr Tamu Davidson, six per cent of cardiovascular disease deaths in Jamaicans 30 years and older can be attributed to tobacco use.

According to the survey, about 10.7 per cent of all adults in India which amounts to about 99.5 million citizens, smoke tobacco out of which men account for 19 per cent while women account for the remaining 2 per cent.

World Health Organization warned that tobacco use and exposure to second-hand smoke were "major causes" of cardiovascular disease, contributing to three million deaths annually. "Smoking reduces their chances of conceiving by at least by 60 per cent. Chemicals present in a cigarette also make certain cervical changes that even put them at an elevated risk of cervical cancer".

As the country joined the global community to mark the 2018 world no tobacco day, we focus on enforcement of the National tobacco control act 2015.

The study did not directly compare the risk of e-cigarettes to tobacco cigarettes, but the researchers said the results suggest that those who use e-cigs may be at higher risk of lung infection than people who do not use the devices.

Consumption in the developing world is rising fast as companies aggresively market their products there, unhindered by advertising bans or health warnings, and replacing consumers in the West who have given up, or died. In 2017, there were 12.2 million smokers. It is the initiative of the World Health Organisation (WHO), with the intention to draw the attention of the global community to the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocate for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.

Programs targeting children have helped prevent teens from picking up tobacco products. "Let us choose health, not tobacco", she added.

The WHO official said the small alpine country was good at monitoring tobacco use and prevention measures.
