Trump meeting Kim: Kardashian seeks pardon for a grandmother in prison

Johnson is a 62-year-old great-grandmother who was imprisoned in 1996 and is serving a life sentence for a first-time, nonviolent drug offense. The 1997 charges were Johnson's first.

In addition to matters of prison reform, the meeting was also expected to have focused on a campaign to pardon a nonviolent drug offender named Alice Marie Johnson.

Kardashian West said in an interview with digital news outlet Mic that she heard about Johnson's story via Twitter. "Since then, Kim has championed the cause of Cyntoia Brown and asked me to help her get involved in that effort as well". TMZ reported earlier this month that Johnson's file was on Trump's desk after Kardashian reached out to Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter. The group Change.org has put together an online petition on her behalf, and she tops the non-profit group Can-Do's list of convicted women who deserve a reprieve.

Trump shared a photo of Kardashian West and himself in his office on Twitter, captioning it: "Great meeting with @KimKardashian today, talked about prison reform and sentencing". "It's very nice that she is here, but that's not a serious thing to have happened here at the White House".

On Wednesday, Kardashian West will reportedly meet with Kushner in the West Wing before being led into a meeting with the president, likely to be held in the Oval Office.

Kardashian tweeted about Johnson Wednesday: "Happy Birthday Alice Marie Johnson". She had reportedly spoken to the adviser "several times" in the past about Johnson's sentence.

Kardashian West supported Trump's rival, Democrat Hillary Clinton, during the 2016 election.

She wrote: "I would like to thank President Trump for his time this afternoon". Johnson has spent more than two decades in prison.

Fixing tough sentencing laws had been a priority of president Barack Obama's administration, but he failed to win Congressional support, prompting a stream of presidential pardons and clemency actions. Perhaps. Considering Trump's friendly relationship with her husband, West, and his affinity for celebrities who treat him well, it's likely.

Say what you will about the Kardashians (personally I find it almost impossible not to admire the hell out of the Kris Jenner Machine and their collective business acumen). "I made some bad choices which have not only affected my life, but have impacted my entire family", she said in a February 2017 letter in the court record. "I'll do whatever it takes to get her out".
