NBA Coach Steve Kerr Goes Off On 'Idiotic' NFL After Anthem Policy

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll talks with wide receiver Doug Baldwin as the Seattle Seahawks after organized team activities at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center Thursday

Amidst the controversy, the league noticed a drop in TV ratings.

"Here's the message they're trying to signal: There are owners and there are players", she said. Like fellow head coach Gregg Popovich, Kerr has spoken out on topics ranging from America's gun crisis to President Trump's immigration ban.

The new regulations - which allow players to remain in the locker room during the anthem if they so choose but permit teams to fine those who kneel - have drawn widespread criticism. His exact words were, "Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out".

Instead of punishing kneeling athletes, the NFL should focus their efforts on combatting CTE and investigating domestic violence allegations in the league, the editors suggest.

The new policy, announced after a two-day meeting of the league's 32 owners, leaves it to individual teams to discipline players for acts deemed disrespectful during the anthem but also gives the league wide discretion to fine teams for actions taken by players.

There was, however, one part of the new policy POTUS didn't agree with: the option that players who don't wish to stand can stay in the locker room. Any violations would result in fines against teams.

Other players took up the cause, and the gesture carried on during the 2017 season even after Kaepernick left the 49ers and failed to be picked up by another team.

Public response to the decision was largely negative.

Do U think players will stand up to this policy when the season begins? But the flag represents respect for freedom, including freedom of speech.

"The NFL should take a lesson from the National Basketball Association, another professional sports league dominated by black players".

Multiple owners have donated money to Trump, including Jones, the Patriots' Robert Kraft, Redskins' Dan Snyder, Jaguars' Shad Khan, Texans' Bob McNair, Rams' Stan Kroenke, Browns' Jimmy Haslam, Buccaneers' Edward Glazer, and then-Jets owner Woody Johnson. A bit later he offered a suggestion to networks broadcasting football games in the future - a running tally of how many players aren't on the field during the anthem: "I'll bet there'll be a box [on the screen] saying so many people were on the sidelines [standing] and so many people were missing".

There were some people - including the president - who agreed with the move.

Trump was mostly pleased with the change.

"They're basically trying to use the anthem as fake patriotism, nationalism, scaring people", Kerr said.

Many consider the NBA the most progressive of the four major American sports leagues, though its rulebook does require players to stand for the national anthem.

Each club may develop its own work rules, consistent with the above principles, regarding its personnel who do not stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.
