Google I/O 2018: AR comes to Google Maps for easier navigation

Google I/O Update: Google Maps 'For You' Section, Augmented Reality Features Announced

While I couldn't get Lin to tell me about the percentage of users who now use the existing Google Maps exploration tools, this new initiative is also part of an attempt to get users to move beyond directions when they think about Maps.

At the Google I/O developer conference on Tuesday, Google unveiled a number of updates to Google Maps, offering a richer and more personal experience for users.

To help provide for these changing needs, the Google Maps team have worked to integrate Google Maps with the smartphone camera. Assistant will also be able to build upon all of its new features within Maps as well.

Google is also trying to make group planning easier by letting you pick, say, one of two places and offering it up to a vote. You'll be told where the "tastemakers are going" and even get a checklist, letting you track the joints you've visited and the ones you still need to make time to see. However, Google has not mentioned that when the feature will be available for the users, nor did Google share any information that whether the app might have a virtual guide also. Once you've reached a decision together, you can use Maps to book a reservation and find a ride to get to the place. The feature essentially brings Street View and merges it with map overlays and location-based positioning for an easy-to-use navigation, TechCrunch reports. Google Maps has a solution for you. However, there is no information as to when the AR direction feature will be rolled out by the tech giant for its Maps.

Google Maps ratings and the Explore tab have rapidly become one of the best ways to find places to eat and drink, but until today, ratings have been generic. With Google Maps, you won't miss a thing.

These features will be rolling out worldwide, on Android and iOS, within the coming months.

The redesigned Explore tab will show you everything that's new and interesting nearby.
