Snapchat introduces AR-powered Lenses

Snapchat-Snappables

The update will roll out to users gradually over the course of this week.

Snap said you will be able to invite your friends to play once you've selected a Snappable.

"Today, we're introducing Snappables - new Lenses for playing augmented reality games with your friends!"

Snap is introducing Shoppable AR to its platform this week - a feature that allows advertisers to sell products directly ... This new feature can be controlled by different gestures like touch, motion, and facial expressions. The company plans to release new Snappables every week. Some Snappables let you challenge friends to beat your high score, while others can invite them to multiplayer games! According to a blog post announcing Snappables, other games will allow users to "fight aliens, start a rock band, and play basketball". Snappables will live to the left of the camera, not the right as traditional lenses do. These are activated by your facial expressions and movements. New content on a daily basis is definitely a good thing, though, especially if the games are fun and you don't mind making insane faces out in public.

However, as per TechCrunch, this is not the first time the Snapchat has launched a selfie game. There's one game that is basically a virtual weight-lifting session using eyebrows.

Snappables will begin rolling out to Snapchat's global base of 187 million daily users for both iOS and Android this week.

Lastly, the company feels that these new Snappables as just the beginning of a new type of AR experience on Snapchat. TechCrunch's Josh Constine has shared a video clip that demos some of the upcoming Snapchat AR games.
