Ant McPartlin To Appear In Court To Face Drink-Driving Charge

Ant Mc Partlin news Jill Halfpenny Ant and Dec date Britains Got Talent

The millionaire television presenter Anthony McPartlin, half of the Ant and Dec team, has been fined £86,000 after admitting crashing his auto while twice the legal alcohol limit. One of the other drivers involved in the accident told the court that he and his wife "could have died" because of McPartlin's reckless driving, the BBC said.

In summary, District Judge Barnes said she had to "consider the seriousness and gravity" of the offence but noted that Ant had shown "genuine remorse" and had taken "immediate action" to address his issues.

Facing magistrates this afternoon, Ant was disqualified from driving for 20 months.

Speaking outside court after the hearing, Ant said: 'I just want to say that I'm truly sorry. "For that I'm truly sorry".

His Mini then hit another Mini Cooper before smashing into the front of the BMW.

The 42-year-old was held after being involved in a collision with two other cars, one of which was carrying a four-year-old girl.

A statement read to he court by Mrs Sinnett-Jones on behalf of Mr Vanoo, the other driver, added: 'The black mini came down the road in my side of the lane facing the wrong side of the road'.

He told the judge the incident was down to "a brief relapse" unbeknownst to McPartlin's mother.

Liam Walker, Ant's defence barrister said: "Anthony McPartlin is sorry".

"He hopes that in time he can make himself better and that he might be forgiven by all of the people that he has let down so terribly". I'm just thankful nobody was seriously hurt.

The star is believed to have been undergoing "intensive" treatment in rehab since the incident, which forced him to cancel all current and upcoming work commitments.

After canceling an episode of "Saturday Night Takeaway" following McPartlin's arrest, ITV resumed the series for its final two installments - including a finale filmed at Universal Orlando in Florida - with McPartlin's co-host, Declan Donnelly, presenting solo for the first time.

But McPartlin of Chiswick, of south west London, was back on screens over the weekend when he appeared alongside Dec as Britain's Got Talent aired its pre-recorded audition shows.
