Knicks Fire Struggle Coach Jeff Hornacek After 2 Seasons

Knicks fire head coach Jeff Hornacek and some big names are candidates to replace him

When Phil Jackson hired Jeff Hornacek as coach of the New York Knicks two years ago, he had visions of pairing Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis on a playoff team.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Knicks informed Hornacek that he was sacked once they returned to suburban NY after beating the playoff-bound Cavaliers 108-95 in Cleveland on Wednesday night in the regular-season finale.

Isola also mentions Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers, former Knicks head coach Jeff Van Gundy, and and Knicks' VP of player and organization and player development Craig Robinson as coandidates.

The Knicks, like they were so good at in the mid-2000s, figured out a way to lose enough games to be irrelevant but also win just enough games not to land a premium pick in the draft. The Knicks are always interesting, for better or worse, and this is a situation to closely monitor in the coming days, especially if the interest progresses into full-fledged discussions between the coach and team. According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, Knicks management believes Wright would be a ideal fit for a rebuilding club, but a source says, "It would take a lot for him to leave".

Hornacek had preached patience earlier on Wednesday, saying he was confident the Knicks were on the verge of being competitive.

The Knicks executives said on Thursday they have already been contacted by coaching candidates - or their representatives - about the job opening. I love what we're doing.

If you wonder whether he has the fortitude to stand up to the media and fan pressure, we refer you to his famed "Take that for data!" postgame speech during last year's playoffs. If I were Kanter I'd opt in and ask for as many minutes per game as they can give.

The Knicks finished the season with a record of 29-53, which now has them picking 9th in the NBA Draft. Sure, the Knicks could luck out in 2019 in the free agency market, but much like the Cleveland Browns, there are few people who expect the New York Knicks to be able to make the right moves in the offseason. He has a reason to be considering Blatt is 83-40 as an National Basketball Association head coach. "That's what we're looking for".

Hopefully, the next Knicks coach will stay longer than two years.

"I am so proud of this guy for everything he accomplished over the last couple of seasons", Abby began.

Mills continued to say the Knicks are rebuilding, with Perry saying there would be no quick fixes. Now it's time for Perry and Mills to show they know how to take advantage.
