Jaguar Land Rover, Britain's biggest carmaker, is reportedly planning to cut jobs and productions due to Brexit concerns.
While JLR has neither confirmed nor denied the job losses, a company spokesperson told the news site that the auto firm would be making "some adjustments" to its production schedules and the levels of agency staff.
Despite the reported job losses, JLR says it plans to continue to recruit "large numbers of highly skilled engineers, graduates and apprentices".
The company stressed it remains committed to its United Kingdom plants, having invested more than 4 billion pounds since 2010 to future-proof manufacturing technologies to deliver new models.
Output will be cut at its central English Solihull and Castle Bromwich plants, affecting some 1,000 agency workers, the source said.
Although JLR has refrained from confirming the number of affected staff members, Autocar understands that 1000 contracts will not be renewed at Solihull and around 350 workers at the Castle Bromwich plant will be relocated to Solihull.
The company is not renewing the contracts of several agency staff and will be informing staff of plans for the next financial year on Monday. Earlier in 2018 JLR cut production at the Halewood, Merseyside plant, citing Brexit uncertainty and the dwindling market for diesel cars.
Around 40,000 people are employed by JLR in the United Kingdom, including 10,000 at its Solihull plant. "These changes have been communicated to our workforce", a JLR spokesperson said in January. Diesel cars make up around 90 per cent of JLR's production output in the United Kingdom and the company is behind the curve with regards to bringing hybrid and all-electric alternatives to market'. Most of the brand's cars run on the fuel, resulting in Jaguar selling 26 per cent fewer vehicles so far this year, and Land Rover selling 20 per cent fewer.
