Another Nigerian Senator, Bukar Mustapha, Is Dead

Mustapha Bukar have been buried in Daura, Katsina state, on Wednesday at the Daura central cemetery at 6.14 p.m.

Senator Bukar was the second senator to die in weeks, after Senator Ali Wakili, 58, who represented Bauchi south in the senate.

The news of Bukar's death is coming less than a week after the Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Umar Jibril, died.

"I send heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the Government of Katsina State, and his constituents, particularly President Muhammadu Buhari", Mr Ekweremadu was quoted as saying in the statement. "As a first-time Senator, Mustapha stood out for the quality of his contributions on the floor, his pragmatism and his work to strengthen the institution of the legislature".

The president recalled that as a young engineer, the deceased used his ingenuity to proffer a lasting solution to the perennial water crisis in Katsina, working variously as a General Manager of the Water Board, Director of National Water Rehabilitation Project and Director, Water Supply at the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.

"I am always touched by the death of dedicated and creative public servants like Senator Bukar".

"We shall surely miss his vibrancy and progressive mindset. It is our prayer that the Almighty Allah grants the late Senator Aljannah Firdaus".

The deceased, an engineer, was the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power.

Senator Bukar's death follows a string of two similar losses that the National Assembly has suffered in recent weeks.
