Google To Launch Low Cost Pixel Phones In Select Markets

Google faced new backlash for showing a plain homepage on Easter Sunday yet again

The company is really excited about penetrating into India with its new consumer products.

"The information obtained could be used to identify a person's desires or interests. Coming soon", tweeted Google India.

Citing four senior Google executives who've been making the rounds in India, the site, which has a mixed track record on unannounced products, claims the new Pixel will be a midrange device "focused on price-sensitive markets such as India". The smart speaker can answer common queries and help manage tasks such as reminders, appointments, etc.

In response to the patents, Consumer Watchdog President Jamie Court declared, "When you read parts of the applications, it's really clear that this is spyware and a surveillance system meant to serve you up to advertisers". If you buy Google Home, you will be able to interact with the device by setting it up to recognise your voice.

As it ramps up its big plans for India, Google will start with its premium Home speakers in the country. Among the most important products from the company will be the smart speakers namely Google Home, Google Home Mini that will compete with Amazon Echo speakers.

An affordable Pixel 3 could see Google pre-empting Apple's launch of a rumoured cheaper iPhone X, which is expected to land (along with two pricier models) in September. So a support for Hindi will be a definite advantage for Google when it launches Home or Home Mini. They are looking at a July-August launch since the next flagship device from Google will probably arrive by November. While Google's Assistant is called Google Assistant, Amazon calls its AI Alexa. In the USA, the Google Home Mini ships for $49 (around Rs. 3,200) and the Google Home ships for $129 (around Rs. 8,500). It will be taking on the Amazon's Echo [review] series.

Google's digital companion has also been helmed to one of Jio's feature phones in December, with the Mountain View, California-based tech colossal repeatedly indicating it's firm to pursue its artificial intelligence revolution in India going forward.
