Huawei's new Porsche Design Mate RS is beyond insane, here's why

Huawei P20

The new devices feature nearly bezel-less displays with a notch at the top for their high-resolution front-facing cameras, and boast high-end specifications.

The Huawei Porsche Design Mate RS is almost identical to the Huawei P20 Pro in terms of specifications, but it has some major design differences, with the most prominent being the removal of the notch on the display, and the centre placement of the rear triple setup - in line with the fingerprint sensor.

The Huawei P20 sports a 5.8-inch full-HD+ (1080 x 2244 pixels) RGBW FullView display, with the W standing for White, and meant to provide better sunlight visibility.

The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro debuted yesterday and their Leica cameras were understandably met with a lot of excitement. They are powered by Huawei's Kirin 970 octa-core processor which is a competitor of Snapdragon 835 not 845. Since it has got a home button in the bottom bezel, the aspect ratio turns out to be an unusual 18.7:9. It also has back fingerprint sensor to unlock the device or to access a second, secure space.

It features a screen cut-out, meaning the display wraps around the sensors at the top of the front face, but the "notch" can be turned off in the phone's settings. The P20 Pro and Porsche Edition Mate RS got a triple camera array on back.

'Camera highlights on the P20 Pro include an eight-megapixel lens with 5x telephoto zoom, a 40-megapixel colour camera as well as a dedicated monochrome lens that captures crisp black and white pictures.

Moving on, the Porsche Design Mate RS is seriously one heck of a premium smartphone made for the elitists.

On top of that, the OLED screen is bumped up to 2K resolution (from 2,240 by 1,080 to 2,880 by 1,440) and the phone has a hefty 256GB or 512GB of internal storage.

Like previous Huawei devices the Pro includes plenty of clever image software with Huawei using AI to predict what you are shooting. Both the batteries support Huawei SuperCharge fast charging as well.

For selfies, this phone is equipped with 24MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture, AI beautification and 3D portrait lighting.

Firstly, despite the P20 Pro including a glass finish, there's no option for wireless charging. However, Huawei launches all its phones with the sub-brand Honor in India so until any further announcements, we can't expect the P20 duo to arrive in the country.

With camera-rich features and aggressive pricing, the P20 series represent Huawei's fresh attempt to compete head-to-head with Samsung's Galaxy S9 and the iPhone X in the increasingly look-alike market for smartphones.

At P9,990, the Huawei Nova 2 lite has features comparable with more expensive mobile phones. The P20 is backed by a 3400mAh battery, while the Pro variant is juiced by a 4000mAh battery.

The P20 is priced at 649 euros (Approximately Rs 53,000) while the P20 Pro model will come at 899 euros (Approximately Rs 73,000).
