Arun Jaitley To Contest Rajya Sabha Polls From Uttar Pradesh: BJP

Left Front Chairman Biman Bose on Friday flayed the Congress high command for "unilaterally announcing" their nominee in the coming Rajya Sabha election in West Bengal, while the two parties were still discussing fielding a common candidate.

The Congress had on Saturday made a decision to support the BSP candidate Bhimrao Ambedkar for the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled later this month. On Sunday, BJP released a list with 18 names, while Congress released the list with 10 names who will be contesting for the upcoming Rajya Sabha.

Accompanied by party Vice President Kirnmoy Nanda, chief spokesman Rajendra Chowdhary, Kannauj MP Dimple Yadav and Sahara India founder Subrata Roy, Jaya Bachchan filed three sets of papers at the Central Hall of the state Assembly here.

BJP has fielded their national executive committee member V Muraleedharan as their Rajya Sabha candidate. Union Minister likely to be declared elected unopposed as tenure of one of RS seat occupy by Mr Nadda is going to end on April 2. The BJP wants to nurture its own leadership in the Rajbhar community.

At present, the opposition Congress and the NCP hold two seats each, while the Shiv Sena and the BJP have apiece each of these six seats of the Upper House of Parliament. He supported the NDA regime and has served as its vice-chairman in Kerala. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in June 2009 and was against re-elected in 2010. The Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled for March 23, 2018.

Other party candidates are Kirodi Lal Meena and Madan Lal Saini from Rajasthan, Ajay Pratap Singh and Kailash Soni from Madhya Pradesh, entrepreneur Rajeev Chandrasekhar from Karnataka, Sameer Uranv from Jharkhand and Lt. Gen. (retd) D P Vats from Haryana.
