Japan Is Getting Some Switch Games We Aren't (Yet?)

Super Smash Bros. is coming to Switch this year

Rumors have been circulating for some time now about a Switch version of Smash Bros.

All things considered, we won't know for sure which characters Nintendo has in mind for Super Smash Bros. on Switch until the company decides to begin eking out even more information about the title in the days and weeks to come. Now, a new etching of those characters could make the starting roster a bit clearer.

KitGuru Says: While I am thrilled that a new Super Smash Bros is making its way to what would be the flawless platform for it, it is a shame that Metroid Prime 4, the new Pokémon RPG or even a Switch-based Fire Emblem hasn't seen an announcement.

We've rounded up all the details on the hotly-anticipated game, including the release date, new characters, and items.

What will the final game be called?

GameMaker Studio 2, the 2D engine that powers indie darling Undertale, is adding support for the Nintendo Switch later this summer.

From the looks of the new trailer released during the Nintendo Direct, it seems like a brand-new game is the direction the Big N has gone with.

A handful of characters are clearly shown in the tease, including Mario, Link, Bowser, and Pikachu. Super Smash Bros. is coming back, and this time it's hitting consoles in hand-held fashion.

Speaking of, Splatoon 2 is getting its first paid DLC this winter. The new titles still coming exclusively to the 3DS reaffirms Nintendo's commitment to what some presumed would be left by the wayside in the Switch's wake. South Park: The Fractured But Whole and its DLCs are arriving April 24. For context, the Wii U and 3DS versions of Smash were simply called Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, respectively. Brawl was the Wii's eighth best-selling title, coming just after games like Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Play, Mario Kart, and New Super Mario Bros.

YoYo Games General Manager James Cox believes the partnership allows for many more games to be released on the platform.
