Confirmed Liverpool lineup vs. Porto: Lallana starts as Klopp rings the changes

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has tipped his former club's bitter rivals Liverpool to be in with a chance of winning the Champions League this season.

Liverpool have made a habit of fast starts in Europe this season, but took time to warm to their task with the German having made five changes in all from the side that beat Newcastle at the weekend.

"But it doesn't really matter who the next team is; if you want to win this competition you have to come up against them eventually".

Liverpool will discover their quarter-final opponents when the draw is made on 16 March (11:00 GMT).

No major injuries were sustained - captain Jordan Henderson had strapping applied to his right thigh after the game, but Klopp said it was nothing more than a dead leg - and Liverpool rarely looked like conceding. "But being a good lad helps a lot to settle in the team immediately and that's what he did". I think it was time we showed up again.

Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the scorers for Madrid, the Portugal forward netting for the ninth straight game in the Champions League.

"It has been four years since the club has won a title and people deserve it". The ties will be played in the first and second weeks of April.

The Reds' second leg meeting with Porto at Anfield may have ended in a scoreless draw, however, there was little to worry about on Merseyside after a 5-0 win in the previous fixture.

Klopp admits that he never had a timeline in mind for Liverpool's return among the European elite, but claims this year's Liverpool side are deserving of their place among the continent's best.

And Can has admitted that he is looking to evade any English opposition at this stage of the Champions League.

"Liverpool are a unsafe team", said Gerrard.

"It feels good, to be honest" he said of reaching the last eight. What the future holds, I don't know.
