Airline worker realises something wrong when two girls checked in without ID

American Airlines agent saves 2 teenage girls from human trafficking scheme

An American Airlines employee at Sacramento International Airport saved the lives of two teenage girls who were about to be slaves.

Airline worker Denice Miracle became concerned when teens aged 15 and 17 approached the ticket counter on August 31 a year ago.

Sacramento Sheriff's deputies believe they helped stop two teens from unknowingly being lured into the sex trafficking trade.

"I think the way they kept looking back-and-forth at each other like they weren't really sure. It just didn't feel right".

Further suspicion arose when she found out that the girls were not accompanied by an adult and neither of them was carrying any IDs.

Miracle noticed the ticket from Sacramento to NY was purchased online, and the credit card had a different name. They had thought the girls were staying at the other's home and were shocked. In this photo, American Airlines signage is seen near the ticket counter in its terminal at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois, Dec. 10, 2004.

The man they called "Drey" allegedly told the girls they could earn $2,000 doing some modeling and by performing in music videos.

The police also found out that the girls had not informed their parents about their weekend getaway.

"They were somewhat flippant saying that no, that can't be true and I said, "No, the airline says you have a one-way ticket, ' and I said 'It's my belief you're going back there not to do the things you think you're going to do", Sanderson said.

'When I told them that they didn't have a flight home, that's when it kind of sunk in that maybe I was actually telling the truth, ' Sanderson added. They believe the girls would most certainly have become victims. "They said they wouldn't have let that happen, and I said they probably wouldn't have had a choice".

Law enforcement officials said that if Miracle would not have called after feeling uncomfortable about the situation, they would not have intervened and the girls would have left the airport alone.

After Miracle refused to get the girls board the flight, they went to a nearby Starbucks table and made a call, as the ticketing agent waited for the police to arrive.

Drey's Instagram account was quickly deleted and their calls to him went unanswered.

While Sanderson questioned the girls, he said he was unaware that the girls had Drey on speakerphone the entire time, and he was listening to the conversation they were having about him. It's unlikely the man will be prosecuted over the incident.
