Serena Williams: Baby Alexis watches mom at Fed Cup

Serena Williams Alexis Olympia

The game didn't exactly go as planned on the court (Serena and Venus lost their doubles match in straight sets) - but the crowd loved her ... and Alexis Sr. proved he's got the the parent thing on lock!

Proving once again that she is one of the greatest athletes in history, the 23-time Grand Slam victor made her post-baby competitive comeback Sunday at the Fed Cup in Asheville, NC, playing a doubles match with her superstar sister, Venus, just five months after giving birth. "I feel like that's a very good step in the right direction". The match resulted in a lackluster, 6-2, 6-3, loss to the Dutch pair Lesley Kerkhove and Demi Schuurs. "It gave me a lot of pressure for me to close it out and a lot of pressure for her to stay in and I just handled it a little better". "I honestly feel better than I thought I was gonna feel, I feel like I didn't expect to play you know like that for me". "I feel like I'm on the right track for me".

Earlier Sunday, Venus Williams defeated Richel Hogenkamp 7-5, 6-1 to give the U.S. a decisive 3-0 lead, with the scheduled singles match between CoCo Vandeweghe and Arantxa Rus scrapped. Both were in attendance over the weekend, seated just behind the players' box.

Serena had previously said that her path back had been full of "ups and downs", crediting Venus with helping her regain her rhythm.

Despite having not played a competitive singles match since last year's Australian Open final, which she won, she is still ranked 22 in the world by the Women's Tennis Association.

"I didn't manage my time well, but I was thinking about it in the future how to manage it better", the younger Williams said.

On Sunday, perhaps the only thing as clear as Williams' desire to return was tennis fans' desire to have her back.

Serena Williams' personal cheering squad couldn't be more adorable.

Ahead of the tie, Serena had refused to be drawn on her Grand Slam hopes for the year.
