THQ Nordic Just Bought Koch Media

Saints Row, Dead Island and Metro publisher Koch Media acquired by THQ Nordic

In other words, the new THQ now owns the brands the old THQ sold off after it filed for bankruptcy in 2012.

Koch Media itself runs Deep Silver (Dead Island and Metro publisher), Volition (Saints Row developer) and Dambuster Studios (Homefront: The Revolution developer), all of which will come under the THQ Nordic umbrella.

The purchase was announced through an official press release from THQ Nordic. In addition, Deep Silver will be responsible for publishing the upcoming Shenmue III for both PS4 and PC.

Another interesting tidbit from the official press release is that THQ Nordic mentions that Saints Row and Agents of Mayhem developer Volition, acquired by Deep Silver in 2013, is now working on an unannounced AAA game. That name doesn't mean a lot to the gaming public, but the name Deep Silver should.

The acquisition means that THQ Nordic now owns all of Koch Media's assets, which includes its studios, intellectual properties, and licenses, such as the Metro game series. In May 2017, Deep Silver told Eurogamer Dead Island 2 was still alive, despite no news emerging on the game in over a year. Having grabbed the likes of Darksiders, Red Faction and Supreme Commander, Nordic jokingly said the rebrand was in response to headlines like: "Who the F*** is Nordic Games?". Wingefors believes that the combined talents under the wing of THQ Nordic will provide a strong foundation for cash flow and profitability.

THQ Nordic has stated that although it won't be interfering with any of the in-development projects that are now slated, it will be closely monitoring and delegating resources to Koch's game division.

Before it became THQ Nordic, Nordic Games bought the rights to a number of THQ IPs when the publisher went bust. THQ Nordic apparently plans to allow Deep Silver to carry on unaffected as a separate company within a company, and have no plans to cancel any of the publisher's planned games in development.
