Bernardeschi takes a swipe at Fiorentina fans

Fiorentina 0 Juventus 2: Federico Bernardeschi and Gonzalo Higuain net second half goals as Old Lady go top of Serie A

Juventus defeated Fiorentina 2-0 in Gianluigi Buffon's 500th league match for the club to leapfrog Napoli at the top of Serie A.

Gonzalo Higuain then gave Juve an insurance goal in the 86th minute by scoring on a one-on-one opportunity against Fiorentina net minder Marco Sportiello.

Referee Marco Guida initially awarded Fiorentina an 18th-minute penalty for a Giorgio Chiellini handball.

While Jordan Veretout waited to take the spotkick, the VAR (video assistant referee) was consulted.

The 23-year-old scored the Turin giants' first goal as he curled in a left-footed free-kick in the 56th minute on Friday. Bernardeschi was later substituted off to the whistles of the crowd.

And with five minutes of normal time remaining, Juventus again responded to the danger in devastating fashion.

It was an important win for champions Juventus who now have 62 points from 24 games - two points ahead of Napoli - who can reclaim top spot when they host Lazio on Saturday.

"It's never easy to win here", the striker told Sky Sport Italia.

The visitors, however, struggled throughout the first half, failing to create any danger on one end while fending off attacking forays by Fiorentina down both wings.

The home side continued to create their own chances, however, and Gil Dias came closest to putting them ahead when he struck the post after a fine break that Juventus failed to keep up with.

"Did I understand the referee's decision? I think certain reactions ought to be avoided, that's a part of football".

"Now we must regroup for the Champions League". Fiorentina (31 points) is now 11th in Serie A with 24 of 38 matches played. I've always been grateful to Fiorentina, and always will, for the way they looked after me and helped me develop, but I made a career choice and now I play for another team.
