Seahawks clean house: Tom Cable reportedly gone, along with Bevell, Richard

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll looks toward a referee as they played the Dallas Cowboys during an NFL football game Sunday Dec. 24 2017 in Arlington Texas

Coach Pete Carroll left the door open for potential coaching changes when he said after the season that the staff would be evaluated.

On Jan 1, during the Seahawks' locker room cleanout, wide receiver Doug Baldwin cautioned against placing blame on Bevell for Seattle's struggles. Carroll's only other significant firing was offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates following the 2010 season, Carroll's first in Seattle. Per Rapoport, the Seahawks are letting Richard pursue "another opportunity", although it's unclear what that opportunity is. We don't execute as a team.

Darrell Bevell's time in Seattle has come to an end.

One possibility is former UW coach Steve Sarkisian, who worked under Carroll at USC from 2001-04 and again from 2006-08, and has been the offensive coordinator with the Atlanta Falcons this season after having worked at Alabama in 2016. And that's on us as players.

In his seven seasons as Seahawks offensive coordinator, Bevell guided them into the top 10 in points scored four times. But Bevell became an exceedingly unpopular figure among Seahawks fans, especially after Seattle lost Super Bowl XLIX to the New England Patriots on an interception at the goal line, costing them a second straight world championship. He called the plays in Seattle's 43-8 win over Denver in the Super Bowl following the 2015 season.

However, the last two seasons have seen a slump in the ground game. Wilson had over 4,000 yards through the air and the team averaged 141 rushing yards per game.

This comes immediately after the news of longtime Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, who has also been a member of the Seattle coaching staff since Cable joined prior to the 2011-12 National Football League season, was also relieved of his coaching duties. Cable, who joined Seattle's staff the same year as Bevell, is also not assured of being brought back next season.
