The Packers will reportedly hire former Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine for the job.

It'll be interesting to see exactly how Pettine puts together the pieces Green Bay already has in place-and what new pieces new Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst brings in for Pettine to play with.

Pettine worked as a defensive coordinator with the New York Jets from 2009 to 2012. Pettine would replace Dom Capers, who was sacked earlier this month after nine years with the team.

Packers now preparing to hire former Browns' HC Mike Pettine as their defensive coordinator, per league source. He then took over as head coach for Cleveland in 2014 but was sacked in January 2016, finishing with a 10-22 record as the Browns dropped 18 of his final 21 games with the team.

"According to ESPN, McCarthy also asked permission to interview the Chargers' Gus Bradley and the Bears" Vic Fangio for the defensive coordinator job.

Defensive line assistant Jerry Montgomery is leaving the Packers after three years to go back to the college ranks and coach the defensive line at Texas A&M.

Pettine will inherit a Packers defense which finished 22nd in total defense, the fourth time they've finished in the bottom third of the league in the last seven years under Capers.

Offensive coordinator Edgar Bennett will not return to the team, and many of his duties are expected to be taken up by Joe Philbin.
